International Energy Agency
On behalf of DOE, D&R planned and implemented the International Energy Agency's Executive Committee Meeting, held November 11–14, 2008. More than 100 senior government level energy agency representatives from countries around the world gathered in Washington, DC to discuss energy issues. Members proposed energy programs and implementation processes that countries could participate in to reduce their impact on the environment. D&R was the lead contact for the registration process; developed the agenda; recruited and coordinated speakers; handled graphic design and printing; negotiated the contract for the conference facilities; made all arrangements for the receptions, including food; and provided on-site support and coordination during the meeting.
Ronald McDonald House
Maryland’s Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore hosts over 1,500 seriously-ill children and their families each year as the children undergo medical treatment at nearby hospitals. In 2005, D&R and the Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) conducted an initial energy audit that revealed the house used about twice as much energy as a house its size and type normally would require. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and several local organizations and businesses, D&R facilitated an energy efficiency upgrade for the house that led to $4,000 in annual energy cost savings. The project, which included air sealing and insulating the attic; lighting, clothes washer, and ceiling fan upgrades; boiler insulation; and other improvements, also enhanced the living conditions for the occupants. The energy cost savings have allowed the Ronald McDonald House to provide additional resources to visiting families. In addition, the house serves as a model to other Ronald McDonald Houses for reducing energy use and lowering energy costs.
World Wildlife Fund
In 2009, D&R supported the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) efforts to expand the Climate Savers program, which encourages leading corporations to set ambitious targets to voluntarily reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. As part of the expansion, WWF encouraged new Climate Savers partners to participate in the 2009 Climate Savers Summit on March 26 in Washington, DC, and then establish bold new climate action plans. D&R developed a recruitment workshop during the summit that answered questions about partnership and created a dialogue between potential partners and WWF staff about the challenges associated with carbon and energy reduction efforts. D&R facilitated the workshop by developing the outline, preparing the speakers and staff, and working with WWF on its goals and purpose for this effort. As a result, several companies, including the three represented in the speaker's panel, started working with WWF to identify achievable climate reduction goals and thus become Climate Savers partners.
